Stone Temple Pilots vocalist Jeff Gutt.

Jeff Gutt’s vocals, as the new front man of the Stone Temple Plots, are much more than just an imitation or a copy of original lead singer Scott Weiland. Gutt’s performance is a tribute to the range, mastery, and power of Weiland; similar, but not quite dissimilar.

The over 3,000 auto racing fans who took time out from their enjoyment of the Detroit Grand Prix to watch STP, at the Fan Zone Stage on Sunday, went away having witnessed the third incantation of STP and the emergence of Gutt in his own right. Rob DeLeo (bass), Dean DeLeo (guitar), and Eric Kretz (drums) have welcomed the newcomer to the band, including a full integration into the creative process.

During his audition with the band, Gutt was given the opportunity to work out the melody and lyrics of what would become Meadow, the first single from STP’s self-titled 7th studio album.
